One great joy of summer is vacation, and water fun makes up a great portion of it. By Olivier Agouna-Deciat

Can you believe it’s already summer? Not long ago many were enduring winter storms and braving record snow falls. This does make spring look like a mere dash as we are now entering summer already.  Well, no complaints… put down that shovel and grab your sweat towel. For many of us living in the south, we know it’s going to be a steady stretch. From mild skin caressing heat to cruel unforgiving scorching sun rays, we are all going to get it one way or another depending on where we live.

One great joy of summer is vacation, and water fun makes up a great portion of it. Not just the water we need to consistently drink enough of to stay hydrated, but also the one we love to enjoy by jumping in, swimming in, relaxing in and much more… No matter where you are planning to take your dive, remember that there are elements in that water that can make you regret your experience. The one immediate consequence I want to stress today is the effect of sea salt (for those heating the beaches) and chlorine (for all the pool lovers) on your hair. Both act as fast drying agents, thus leaving your hair brittle and, if not cared for, they put it on an accelerated path for breakage.  What happens is that salt and chlorine can penetrate into the cortex of your hair shaft and compromise your hair cuticle, thereafter leading to the splitting of the ends and breaking of the hair strands.
I know for sure that this is not what we anticipate when we jump into those pools or into the ocean; However, for every problem there is or are always solutions with very few exceptions. In this case, as you would hear it over and over again, it is widely recommended to immediately wash your hair afterwards with a shampoo and then condition it. This action can help some but in most cases it is hard to get rid of all the chlorine and the salt already in the cortex of your hair shaft. Prevention has always been my big incline in health care and wellness in general. We all know or have heard that common saying: It’s always better to prevent rather than trying to cure afterward. Did you know that Shea Touch Scalp Tonic Balm is not just a great hair growth stimulator but that it is also very effective at conditioning both your hair and scalp? Applying it to your hair and scalp before jumping in the water can help prevent chemicals from reaching your hair cuticle and therefore serve as a great preventive agent. The best part is that due to its composition, Shea Touch Scalp Tonic Balm conditioning effect will last event after a long time playing in the water. This balm will also sooth and protect you scalp from damaging sun rays. I would still recommend that you do wash your hair afterward with shampoo and re-apply a small amount of the Scalp Balm or apply the Shea Touch Hair Rejuvenating Cream to reinforce the conditioning and protective effects. Shea Touch Scalp Tonic balm and Hair Rejuvenating Cream are both all natural and safe for most hair and skin types.
All that having been said, I now know for a fact that your hair and the one of your loved ones - young and mature, female and male – should be as excited as you to the idea of all the wet summer fun awaiting you. Here we come, water parks, pools, and big oceans… Stay healthy and enjoy your summer!
