Get Rid of Dandruff! Naturally…

By Pinakeen Patel, PhD, RPh.

Dandruff is a chronic scalp condition manifested by itching and flaking of the scalp. Dandruff is not contagious and can rarely be serious, though it can be uncomfortable and sometimes difficult to treat. Mild cases of dandruff can be treated with daily shampooing with gentle cleanser while stubborn cases of dandruff required medicated shampoos. Dandruff is easy to spot – they appear as white, oily looking flakes of dead skin on hairs and shoulder and cause the scalp to be itchy and scaly.

Factors like dry skin, irritated oily skin, not cleaning the scalp often enough, sensitivity to skin careproducts, and certain fungi like Malassezia can cause mild, moderate to severe dandruff. Other favorable conditions are age (begins in young adulthood and continues through middle age; gender (dandruff occurs more frequently in males than females and this can be due to male hormones); poor diet (food lacking zinc, vitamin B, or certain types of fat); illnesses such as Parkinson’s diseases, people recovering from stressful conditions like heart attack or stroke, and individual with lower immunity in general.

In order to reduce dandruff occurrence, frequent washing of the scalp and hair coupled with proper moisturizing is critical. Washing with regular or anti-dandruff shampoo is just half the effort towards alleviating dandruff
problems. Shampooing can make the scalp even drier and if no proper moisture of the scalp follows, it can lead to exacerbation of dandruff occurrence. Shea Touch® line of hair products is made with these fundamental elements, and is properly enriched to help protect your scalp from dandruff. Use Shea Touch® scalp tonic balm, hair rejuvenating cream or lotion after regular shampooing of hair and scalp according to the level of the dryness of your scalp since too much oil can also exacerbate dandruff problems. Scientific study shows that there is a relative decrease in intracellular lipid level in scalps with dandruff compared to healthy scalps. Shea Touch® line of hair products can be a natural  source for these lipids deriving from various ingredients like shea butter, jojoba oil, olive oil, and castor oil. Itching and redness associated with dandruff can be cured or controlled by shea butter and castor oil in Shea Touch® hair products. Vitamin C in Amla extract and vitamin E in shea butter work as antioxidants that can help to slow down aging of the scalp’s skin at the cellular level.

Try Shea Touch® range of hair products according to your specific skin condition along with your regular shampooing habit and get rid of those embarrassing white flakes so that you can again wear dark cloths with confidence.
