Do you know these facts about your hair? Hair is represented by two structural parts: (1) The hair follicle lies beneath the skin and represents the living part of the structure; this is where hair growth begins. (2) The hair shaft is the hard filamentous part extending above the skin which is considered dead and doesn’t show any biochemical activity. Other structures of the hair follicle include the sebaceous gland which lubricates the hair. In humans, the primary role of hair on the head is to provide heat insulation. Human hair grows everywhere on the body except for the palms of hands, soles of the feet, and the lips. Protein, iron, vitamin B, vitamin E, essential fatty acids and sulfur promote hair growth while elements like coffee, sugar and fat stunt the hair growth. Nutrition rich blood supply promotes healthy hair growth and exercise stimulates the blood flow to hair. Hair grows faster in the summer and slower at night.
